I've ever heard...on any subject!
Christina Crain, M.S.W., Director of Programs at the Southwestern
Connecticut Agency on Aging & Independent Living, located in
Bridgeport, gave the tutorial with
interspersed questions and answers.
Almost everyone
had a question or two or three...
Prepared quickly after election season 2013, this excellent
tutorial provided lots of opportunity to ask someone who is
professionally involved in the whole health care roll out in CT,
but also totally conversant with how the CT Exchange relates to
the federal programs around this subject - some of which have been
around and others that are changed or just evolving!
Healthcare
enabler was present, too.
A special State of Connecticut funded outreach specialist on
short-term grant from UCC (r) provided information packets for
all. Her job is to get people signed up for the Exchange, we
think.
So who actually has any reason to go the the healthcare exchange
with the expectation that they will receive some financial relief
as well as the information available?

LWV attended a meeting
organized by
Senator Boucher in the Willton Library that introduced some of the
players in the health care
reform -
insurance brokers, CT Health Care Exchange, doctors but no
lawyers...program

bios.
Background
The
League
of Women Voters at all levels has been concerned about health care
for many years.
A quick
review of what the LWV has done to inform voters about health care
in the U.S.A. and issues it has studied. FYI - if League
has not studied a subject, it
does not take action in that area.
In Connecticut...
LWVCT Fall Conference 2009
Having that
position in place, when in 2009 there was a panel discussion of
what "national" health care might look like in the
U.S.A., LWVCT Fall Conference sought to understand
what CT was aiming to do. Then Comptroller Nancy Wyman
(above) described SustiNet.

Upcoming Financing Plan Will Reignite Debate Over Single-payer
System In Vermont
Two weeks from now, Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin will describe how
he thinks the country’s first state-based single payer system will
be financed. Whether the Green Mountain State keeps moving forward
with its goal of achieving universal coverage while also reducing
the growth of health care spending depends largely on how the
state’s residents and businesses react to what Shumlin has in
mind.
Vermont lawmakers passed a bill in May 2011 that set the state on
the path toward single payer, but the bill left it up to Shumlin
to figure out the financing. Although everyone has known from the
beginning that the cash needed to operate the new system—estimated
at $2 billion in its first year — will have to come from tax
revenues, no one knows exactly what combination of taxes the
