Mark Twain House, Hartford - Westport NEWS article unrelated to the Fall Conference - take the tour!
October 29, 2016
HOW MANY THINGS SAID BY MARK TWAIN STILL ARE SO TRUE TODAY?
So many and it was so appropriate to be addressing the subject "Follow
the Money (money in politics in CT)" at the lovely Mark Twain House and
Museum

TOURS WERE AVAILABLE AFTER THE MORNING'S DISCUSSION
Arriving early for the Conference, we found a seat in
the auditorium first and then took an unguided tour of the not-yet-open
museum!

LOOKING BACK AT THE EARLY ARRIVALS...GETTING INSTRUCTIONS (LOCATION OF W.C., TURN OFF DEVICES).
The Mark Twain House and Museum must get big crowds -
it is first-class in terms of modern facilities, beauty in detail of
interiors. This year it seemed as if a pretty high
percentage of those in attendance did turn off their devices!

AWESOME PANEL!!! INTRODUCED BY AWESOME MODERATOR IN BLUE
Left to right: CTNEWSJUNKIE online newspaper
Editor; ConnPIRG (CT public interest research group
director); Attorney (previously, while in U.S. Attorney's Office,
Chief of the Public Corruption/Financial Fraud Unit); State
Election Enforcement Commission Executive Director and General
Counsel. Fifteen minutes each, then discussion of issues raised.

THE MAN
The reason why many came was to hear the full story behind the threat to S.E.E.C.

LEAGUE FRIEND AND SUPER LAWYER
Very thorough and well documented research explaining the state of affairs in Campaign Finance right now.

FROM NATIONAL ORGANIZATION ("PUBLIC INTEREST RESEARCH GROUP")
Director of CT Chapter recently in Colorado...provided much helpful comparison to other States.

CTNEWSJUNKIE FOUNDER AND EDITOR
So helpful in providing "how to" info for those who want to keep track of stuff on this subject!!!

THEN THERE WAS QUESTION AND ANSWER TIME
Everyone shared sources and resources and everyone learned
something about how League can and does play a part in MAKING DEMOCRACY
WORK...

IN CLOSING, THE PANEL NOTED HOW HARD WE WOULD HAVE TO WORK TO SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY...
